Saturday, Oct 20 – Zach Brock with the Phil Markowitz Quartet

Zach Brock‘s soaring lyricism takes the form of the jazz violin. He commands energy and power that is at once demanding and gifted.

“Zach Brock is the pre-eminent improvising violinist of his generation.” – Michael Jackson, Chicago Sun-Times
“Zach proves himself as composer, improviser and producer. With a fiercely charismatic presence onstage, Zach is the one on whom to place your bets in jazz.” – Patricia Barber

Brock is one of the most virtuosic and emotive leaders of contemporary jazz violin. He has forged a unique sound for the violin that incorporates everything from jazz, folk, classical, rock, punk, world and popular music.  Witness Almost Never, an intriguingly phrased duet.

Zach’s arrangement of the Phil Markowitz composition Snow Peas is a taste of the New York – New York collaboration that will gift our stage. They have played with a stellar cast of musicians including Stanley Clarke, Patricia Barber, Aaron Goldberg, Phil Woods, Joe Lovano, and Lionel Hampton, among many others.

As equally at home with the avant guard as the classics, Markowitz has the breadth and chops to cover it all. Joining the two New Yorkers are Canadian stars John Maharaj on bass, and Morgan Childs on drums.
