Be prepared for some Latin heat as multi-award winning vocalist Eliana Cuevas comes to town with her quintet. In 2009, Cuevas won Latin Jazz Artist of the Year in the National Jazz Awards and has been on a tear ever since. She has performed with Juno-winning Latin artists Alex Cuba, Jesse Cook and Jane Bunnett. Cuevas also continues to collaborate with diverse ensembles including Caribbean Jazz powerhouse CaneFire, the Jorge Miguel Flamenco Ensemble, and Juno-nominated jazz composer Darren Sigesmund, touring venues as far as Australia and Japan. Born into a musical family in Venezuela, Eliana manages an exquisite blend between jazz, Latin, pop, and blues styles working into a sound all her own as evidenced by her latest album Espejo (2013)
This performance, which includes partner Jeremy Ledbetter on piano (whose last performance at THE JAZZ ROOM with Russ Noalan turned heads), helps to kick off a cross Canada tour of all the major jazz clubs including Yardbird, Bassment, the Cellar, and Hermann’s. Don’t miss what will be a jazz vocal tour de force with a Latin soul.
