Friday night we welcome a breath of fresh air from Montreal. Currently a master’s student at McGill University, François Jalbert and his quartet are making waves over the jazz world with their contemporary sound that blends jazz, popular music, and world sensibilities into a style and compositional world all their own. The quartet’s repertoire combines strong melodies, rhythmic and harmonic complexity, creating a world that is both accessible and surprising.

Jalbert has been a double recipient of Montreal Guitar Grand Prix (2006 and 2008), as well as receiving the Scholarship of the Montreal International Jazz festival in Jazz Guitar 2008 and 2009. The quartet itself has developed a rich and vibrant music, exploring as much the lyricism as the virtuosity, always in a perspective of constant communication between the band members to create a common artwork. The band’s first album Sens Unique was released in May 2012.

Joining François on guitar will be pianist Jerome Beaulieu, bass player Remi Jean Leblanc, and drummer Kevin Warren. Don’t miss some of the best Montreal has to offer in this unique and fresh ensemble.
