After many tours in Europe, Asia and America, as well as collaborations with some of the biggest names in jazz (D. Liebman, L. Grenadier, D. McCaslin, D. Weiss, D. Binney, Ben Monder P. Woods, etc.), the timing for Samuel Blais’ new record couldn’t be better. Inspired by his travels and numerous collaborations, this new album proves to be a testimony of the incredible maturity of the young artist and composer. So much has evolved and changed since his last CD, which came out in 2014, co-produced with saxophonist David Liebman, who has performed with legends like Miles Davis and Elvin Jones. The music lies somewhere between contemporary classical music, improvised jazz and progressive rock. « Equilibrium » is an album which finds its balance through melody, rhythm, duality, contrasts, intensity, fragility and a complete devotion to the music. This is not a jazz record, it is the tales of a few moments, a few stories, glimpses of happiness, sadness or hope captured in the beauty of the moment, the present. Thanks for listening!

Leading-edge music coloured by a wide-variety of influences, Blais’ compositions reverberate with a contagious energy. Sometimes melodic and fragile, other times intervallic and groove oriented, his work will not leave you unaffected. Rooted in the authenticity of the moment, his ever-evolving music offers a fresh approach, that speaks directly to the curiosity in you. Will you dare to listen?”
