Join us on the stage of THE JAZZ ROOM for a workshop with NYC-based saxophonist Russ Nolan! Russ has developed an insightful workshop series that demonstrates that jazz composition is one and the same as jazz improvisation.
Russ will draw on this 3-part series for the workshop, incorporating compositions that you’ll hear in his concert, allowing the clinic to take different turns based on the interests of the studio audience.
You can take a tour of the workshop charts using these links:
Here are a few charts that you won’t want to miss!
- Three Views of a Secret – Lead Sheet
- Russ Nolan Composition-Arranging Chord Menu
- Creepin’
- No Secrets
- Nowhere Man
- Stolen Moments- C
- View from the Bridge
This Saturday afternoon workshop will include a lecture/demo component geared to complement the evening show. In addition to the insights and examples of technique, participants have an opportunity to play along with the visiting professionals leading the workshops! The grand finale is a raffle for a one-hour Skype lesson with the leader of the workshop valued at $100!
Do I need to be a musician to attend? Should I bring an instrument? What’s the sound system like?
