The New Vibes Jazz Quintet had its genesis at the Boat House, Victoria Park in Kitchener as a Jazz trio in 1999. Twenty-one years later, Dan Brennan (bass), Andy Macpherson (vibes), John Zadro (piano), Jerzy Kaplanek (violin) and Jay Boehmer (drums) are very pleased to be appearing for their tenth time in nine seasons at the KW Jazz Room.
During their local tenure, they have performed with the Breithaupt Brothers and the Penderecki String Quartet as well as many of the region’s talented vocalists. For this evening, the NVJQ will debut a few original compositions but never veer far from their trademark interpretations of Jazz standards. Theirs is a polished sound with fluid improvisation. With two percussionists, NVJQ provides an extensive range of rhythmic expression. The combination of vibraphone and violin is not often heard… but what a beautiful sound!
