Jazz Room Code of Conduct

The Jazz Room exists to celebrate live music and to provide a welcoming, respectful environment for all members of our community. This Code of Conduct applies to all stakeholders, including pass holders, ticket-purchasing patrons, visiting musicians, volunteers, venue staff, and board members.

Our shared goal is simple: to ensure everyone can enjoy great music in a fair, respectful, and comfortable setting.

1. Respect for All

  • Treat all members of the Jazz Room community—patrons, musicians, volunteers, staff, and board members—with courtesy and respect.
  • Discriminatory remarks, insults, slurs, intimidation, harassment, or use of abusive or demeaning language toward anyone will not be tolerated.
  • Differences of opinion may occur, but disagreements must remain respectful.

2. Roles and Responsibilities

  • Volunteers, staff, board members, musicians, and patrons each have distinct roles.
Please support the Jazz Room by staying within your own role:
    • Volunteers greet patrons, manage venue entry and support musicians if they are selling merchandise.
    • Board members host events, provide seating assistance, and support the musicians, sound engineers, volunteers and staff.
    • Staff and management of the Huether oversee venue operation including food & beverage service and building maintenance.
    • Patrons enjoy the music and follow the guidelines of the venue.
    • Musicians provide the opportunity to listen to a live Jazz music performance
  • Board members are empowered to address conduct issues relating to musicians, patrons, volunteers and sound engineers.
  • Huether management are empowered to address conduct issues relating to staff or the physical premises/venue operation.
  • Board members’ or Huether management decisions—including relocating patrons to improve seating fairness—must be respected.
  • Please do not direct staff, volunteers, patrons or musicians unless it falls within your role. Reach out to the Board host, or Huether management if there is an issue.
  • Abuse toward volunteers or staff, including rude comments, raised voices, or hostile behaviour, is not acceptable.

3. Seating Fairness & Table Sharing

  • Seating is first come, first servedHolding seats “just in case” others join you later is not permitted.
  • Saving seats for late-arriving members of your party is limited to a short reasonable window.
  • If patrons arrive early, they are welcome to choose a table appropriate to your party size. Large tables are intended for large groups.
  • During busy shows, staff or volunteers may ask patrons to move to a more size-appropriate table so larger groups can be accommodated.
  • When the room is full, patrons may be asked to share tables. Sharing is part of the Jazz Room’s community atmosphere.

4. Sharing the Space

  • Hold conversations for the break.
  • Avoid blocking aisles or sightlines.
  • Silence cellphone notifications during the performance and save mobile phone conversations to the break.
  • Do not use flash photography during performances.
  • Respect the personal space and comfort of those around you.
