Brian Dickinson has been a fixture on the Canadian jazz scene for over thirty-five years. He has
performed internatonally with artsts including Lee Konitz, Jerry Bergonzi, Michael and Randy
Brecker, Pat LaBarbera, Kirk MacDonald, Kenny Wheeler and John Abercrombie.
He is a mul?ple Juno award winner with two recent nomina?ons for his recordings, “Fishs
Eddy”, a trio offering featuring the bass work of George Mraz and “The Rhythm Method”, a
quintet recording. His most recent recording is, “Music for Jazz Orchestra” (October 2017), a
recording of original music for big band featuring some of Canada’s best, including: Kelly
Jefferson, Kevin Turco]e, John MacLeod, Luis Deniz, Perry White and Al Kay, among others. As a
sideman, he has played on over eighty recordings.
For the past two years, he has been an active member of the “Canadian Jazz Collective” touring
and recording in Europe and North America.

The Penderecki String Quartet, approaching the third decade of an extraordinary career, has
become one of the most celebrated chamber ensembles of their genera?on. These four
musicians from Poland, Canada, and the USA bring their varied yet collec?ve experience to
create performances that demonstrate their “remarkable range of technical excellence and
emo?onal sweep” (Toronto, Globe and Mail). Their recent schedule has included concerts in
New York (Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall), Amsterdam (Concertgebouw), Los Angeles (REDCAT at
Disney Hall), St. Petersburg, Paris, Prague, Berlin, Rome, Belgrade, Zagreb, Atlanta, as well as
appearances at interna?onal fes?vals in Poland, Lithuania, Italy, Venezuela, Brazil, and China.
The PSQ champions music of our ?me, performing a wide range of repertoire from Haydn to
Zappa as well as premiering over 100 new works to date. Described by Fanfare Magazine as “an
ensemble of formidable power and keen musical sensi?vity”, the PSQ’s diverse discography
includes the chamber music of Brahms and Shostakovich (Eclectra and Marquis labels) and their
recently released Bartok cycle. They enter their 20th year as Quartet-in-Residence at Wilfrid
Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario.

Multiple Juno award–winning saxophonist, composer and educator Kelly Jefferson has been a
leading figure in the Canadian jazz community and beyond for over twenty-five years. He has
performed with the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Maria Schneider, Christian McBride, Kenny
Werner, Phil Woods, Clark Terry, Al Jarreau, Michel LeGrand, Brian Blade, Randy Brecker, Renee
Rosnes, Russell Malone and Joey DeFrancesco.
Kelly holds a Bachelor of Music degree from McGill University in Montreal and a master’s
degree from Manhattan School of Music in New York City.
Kelly has performed extensively in Canada, the United States, Japan, Thailand, Europe, South
Korea and China, including a nine-month tour with legendary trumpeter Maynard Ferguson.
The Kelly Jefferson Quartet release Next Exit, was nominated for a 2011 Juno Award. Kelly is
also a member of the collective trio TuneTown, along with bassist Artie Roth and drummer
Ernesto Cervini. Mr. Jefferson is currently a faculty member at both the University of Toronto
and York University, and has adjudicated at music festivals and has given numerous clinics and
workshops throughout North America. An active freelance musician and guest artist, Kelly
performs regularly with groups that include the Carn-Davidson 9, Emilie-Claire Barlow and The
Shuffle Demons.

Jim Vivian has been at the forefront of music making in Canada for 30 years, and has performed
and/or recorded with most of the well known jazz artists working in the country today. Originally
from Newfoundland, he moved from St. John’s to Toronto in 1979 to pursue classical bass
studies with Thomas Monohan and Thorvald Fredin. During the early 1980’s he began to focus
more on jazz and improvised music, studying with Dave Holland at the Banff centre, and later in
New York with Holland and Marc Johnson.
Jim has long-standing associations with many musicians in Toronto and across the country such
as Mike Murley, Jeff Johnston, Don Thompson, Brian Dickinson, and John MacLeod, to name a
few. He appears on over 100 recordings, 30 of which have been nominated for Juno awards in as
many years. He has also performed and recorded with many internationally esteemed artists such
as John Abercrombie, Jerry Bergonzi, Mick Goodrick, David Leibman, John Taylor, Kenny
Wheeler, and Norma Winstone.
Jim holds a Masters Degree in Music from York University and has been on Faculty at the
University of Toronto Jazz Department since September 2001.
