Ellington and Jobim, standards, original compositions and other Canadian gems — Toronto pianist and vocalist Fern Lindzon has been a creative and compelling presence in jazz. She has three CDs to her credit, the second, Two Kites, a Juno Award Vocal Jazz Album of the Year nominee in 2012. Her current project, Las Meninas, a suite inspired by painter Diego Velazquez’s 17th-century masterpiece, vividly reimagines Baroque and traditional Spanish music — as only Fern can — in a contemporary jazz setting. Fern has been performing with sympatico bass player George Koller for many years. He plays on all of Fern’s CDs and produced the last two. Their trio with Ethan Ardelli is exciting, adventurous and a total delight.
