“This Jazz meets Elvis concept is the brainchild of West End Jazz Festival director, Oliver Vadas. A while back he approached Mark Kelso to organize a TV show of Elvis Presley tunes, but done in more of a Jazz style. Immediately Kelso picked some local top-flight players to play the music, but that still left the concept of arranging such iconic songs in the Jazz domain. The challenge presented was how to respect these iconic songs and yet make them work within the Jazz realm. Hopefully you will enjoy the Jazz and New Orleans inspired grooves that Kelso has arranged for the night. You’ll hear such classics such as Love Me tender, Suspicious Minds, Jailhouse Rock, Hound Dog, That’s Alright Mama, Heartbreak Hotel and many others. We are looking forward to presenting Jazz meets Elvis on Feb 11th at the Jazz Room.”
