Sarah Nairne is proud to present A Night of Soul, Funk and R&B at the Jazz Room. Traversing through the music from the 70s, 80s and 90s that still resonates through our musical landscape now, this show will immerse you in the songs that inspired and ignited generations. Accompanied by a stacked set of regular Jazz Room performers, this will be a soulful night you won’t want to miss. Soulful, upbeat and smooth sounds, baselines that will get you grooving and music that will ignite your spirit. This is not your traditional jazz room night, feel free to call out with you like something, announce your enthusiasm – no polite clapping here.

An exciting new venture to perform a night full of soul, funk and R&B is truly an honour for Sarah. Previously seen supporting the Caleb Khuu Quintet, Sarah Nairne is a Black, Canadian multi-disciplinary artist of Jamaican heritage. Born and raised in the Waterloo Region but developed her vocal talents with the music of Yolanda Adams, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston and Donny Hathaway, Sarah has a voice you’ll never forget. Sarah’s had the privilege to share her work as a vocalist, actor, creative and more on multiple stages and spaces across Canada & Australia. More widely recognized in the Canadian musical theatre industry Sarah has performed in the multi-award winning Canadian Premiere of The Color Purple, Mirvish Productions Come From Away and most recently in Drayton Entertainment’s Beehive!: The 60s Musical. You can catch Sarah in the upcoming All Canadian Cast of Mirvish Productions &Juliet at The Royal Alexandra Theatre in December 2025. Sarah’s care and love for this type of music is immense and its influence in her voice and stylings is almost palpable. She always approaches every performance with connecting and drawing the audience into her imagination of the music, and cannot wait to fellowship with the Jazz Room audience in September!
