Tim Louis has been described as a triple-threat talent: singer, songwriter and pianist. As a performer, Tim connects with his audience through his warm and inviting personality. Born in New Jersey, Louis first studied under jazz great Kenny Barron, eventually earning a degree in Music from Rutgers before moving to the New York scene, where he worked alongside Mile Davis’ iconic producer Teo Macero. He dallied for a time in rock and country bands and it is his appreciation for other genres of music which informs his personal style. He interprets other artists through his jazz filter – injecting their influence into his definition of contemporary jazz.
Tim can deliver a performance as a solo artist, as a member of a small jazz group, or as with his performance last summer with the Canadian Big Band, in front of a 17-piece ensemble. As a singer, his sound is reminiscent of the best of the big band singers, but with a very modern edge.
