Roberto Occhipinti is a highly versatile bass player with deep forays into Latin jazz (with Hilario Duran), R&B, funk and soul. His fearless lead of some of Toronto’s finest studio musicians in Soul Stew, diverse influences including classical virtuoso Joel Quarrington, and his insights into production lend Roberto a distinct and accomplished voice.

“Occhipinti is a composer of exceptional brilliance. He has a flair for narrative and a rare genius for infusing his musical stories with an almost Conradian gift of dynamic tension. As a gifted and thoughtful musician whose music inhabits a larger canvas in a painterly manner, he also has an absolute mastery of tonal color. His bass playing leans heavily into the ocean of European ideas—like bassists such as Javier Colina—and swings with erudite masculinity.”Modica Music

His involvement with a highly original Sicilian Jazz Project is a fusion with his own musical origins including hauntingly beautiful performances like Surfarara.  Roberto has assembled a formidable quartet with deep experience with his project A Bend in the River.
